Zia Andar (MEd 2018, IE concentration) was a well-loved and highly gifted member of the UMass community, both on campus and through his work with the HEP program in Afghanistan. His loss is deeply felt by faculty, staff and students in our program, both here in Amherst and around the world.
The IE students are leading a memorial service (via Zoom) this Friday at 11am. They request that anyone who wishes to say a few words contact Jacole (the IE student rep) at firstname.lastname@example.org, and to write a few words in a document (https://docs.google.com/…/1D8KXMY7nTNwU71gXFlG6m0X…/edit) which will be shared with his family.
Would you please circulate this message to any other alumni, faculty or staff who may have known Zia and would like to participate? Here is the message sent to current IE students, and attached is the PDF version:

We were shocked and deeply saddened to learn about the loss of our dear friend and colleague, Zia Andar from Afghanistan who graduated from the International Education Master’s program in 2018. Those who knew him are planning a small gathering on Zoom to hold space to grieve, share memories, and celebrate his life on Friday, November 13 at 11am. Details are in the attached PDF. Please feel free to share this with anyone you think might like to attend.
If you would like to share some photos, please feel free to email them to Jacole Douglas (email@example.com), the IE student representative, beforehand by Thursday evening (November 12).
We are also going to share some messages of condolence with his family, which you can write here: https://docs.google.com/…/1D8KXMY7nTNwU71gXFlG6m0XF…/edi
