“For the first time in our University’s 15 year history, our academic staff have proactively contributed into societal affairs,” said Mr.Sayed Mobin Hashimi, vice chancellor for academic affairs. Thanks to the internal quality assurance unit (IQAU) at Parwan University.
Since quality assurance is a new phenomenon in Afghanistan, Parwan University has made maximum out of it by seriously utilizing available resources in the IQAU. Parwan’s is one of the 20 IQAUs established in 20 public universities with the financial and technical support of the World Bank-funded Higher Education Development Project (HEDP).
According to Mr.Hashimi, QA activities have now been expanded and well understood at the University as it has indeed contributed greatly in improving academic and cultural activities of its faculties. Academic members and even students take part in volunteer community development initiatives.
Mr. Hashimi said that unlike previous years, the overall idea of QA to improve educational programs quality and efficiency had now been fully recognized not only by the university staff but also by students. “We now have quality assurance sub-committees even on faculty level,” added Mr.Hashimi. He says that regular QA meetings take place both on university and faculty levels.
For the first time ever, Mr. Hashimi said that individual action plans and teaching improvement plans of academic staff had been standardized.
IQAU serves as the central entity when it comes to accreditation of each university. “With the help of the IQAU, Parwan University has secured category B accreditation in the year 2019 from Ministry of Higher Education”, Mr.Hashimi recalls.
He concluded that they were really appreciative of the assistance provided by HEDP in this regard.
