Advance Training on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and Student-Centered Learning (SCL)
April 24, 2016 @ 8:00 am - May 3, 2016 @ 5:00 pm
One of the main objectives of the Higher Education Development Project (HEDP) is to provide support the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and public universities in modernizing teaching and learning methods, introduce constructive alignment and implementing OBE-SCL in the public universities of Afghanistan. Globally, there is a growing a trends towards active student centered learning and outcome based education in the higher education, while many Afghan universities still follow traditional teacher-centered pedagogy and passive student learning approaches, due to which many Afghan universities struggle to achieve national and international quality standards, and often the graduate are not able to compete in the job market. There is also a general recognition among the Ministry’s (MoHE) leadership on the need for using modern-learning-techniques (MLTs) and introducing online-education in the universities.
In achieving the above mentioned objectives, Afghan universities needs to undergo through a culture change from the teacher-centered to student-centered and opt for constructive alignment and outcome based education. To address this, HEDP has already organized a two days’ workshop on introduction to Outcome-Based Education (OBE), Students Centered Learning (SCL) in November, 2015 with the help of Malaysian University of Technology (UTM). The workshop covered the importance of OBE and SCL, planning or designing the curriculum, implementation and delivery, and assessments.
Based on the interest of the participants and the need, we have now organized a series of advance level trainings that will cover the modern teaching and learning approaches in more depth. The training will be conducted from 24 April to 03rd May, 2016 with the help of senior international consultants from the University Technology Malaysia.
